Little pieces of Saharanpur
Most of the wooden holders come from Saharanpur, where woodwork is a serious industry. Workshops there produce furniture, carved panels, boxes, trays and thousands upon thousands of smaller pieces. Wood is cut, shaped, carved, sanded, inlaid, coloured and polished. Then, somehow, it all has to be packed without the brass falling out or the long ashcatchers arriving shaped like bananas.
Look across this family and the variety of finish is obvious: plain mango wood, burnt carving, brass inlay, bright chakra colours and gold-stamped symbols. They belong together, but do not look as though they came out of one machine.
Make the incense display look interesting
These holders can turn a rather flat row of incense packets into something warm, colourful and a little exotic. Put the simple natural ashcatchers in a shallow basket, stand a box or tower behind them and use one of the larger trays to give the display some height. Add a few unlit sticks so customers can see how the pieces work. Incense beside ashcatchers; cones beside cone holders. No mystery there.
Choose the burner first, the symbol second
Customers will often head straight for the Buddha, Hamsa, Triple Moon or Tree of Life. Fair enough. But first check what they actually burn. Slim ashcatchers are mainly for sticks; discs and other pieces described for sticks and cones give more choice; boxes, towers and bowls create a very different look. Bundle the obvious pair – Sit an incense packet on or beside a holder with a small “buy them together” card. No elaborate gift set is required.
Keep the impulse lines close – Put the lower-cost ashcatchers beside the till or immediately below the incense. They are easy last-minute gifts and useful extras.
Give the bigger pieces some height – Stand trays, boxes and towers behind the flat ashcatchers so the display can be seen across the shop.
Show what fits – Use an unlit stick and cone as display props, with a short label saying “sticks”, “cones” or “both”.
Mix natural with colourful – Too many symbols together become visual soup. Break chakra, zodiac and gold designs with plain or burnt mango wood.
