Today, Black Friday is a major shopping event held on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States and has become a highlight of the festive shopping season.
But did you know that in 1961, retailers tried to rename it “Big Friday” ?
In Philadelphia, the crowds of shoppers and heavy traffic were so intense that police called it “Black Friday”. Local retailers thought the name sounded unflattering!
The new name never caught on… and “Black Friday” went on to become a worldwide shopping event.
